Makes You Wonder

This is a true story.
One of my patients is a mentally retarded paranoid schizophrenic.
He had been seen by the house physician on midnight shift because of chest pain.
The following morning I asked him how he was feeling, meaning as far as chest pain.
Thinking I was doing my usual assessment of his mental status he looked me straight in the eye and said, "My mind works as good as yours does."
Before I could respond he added, "Makes you wonder, doesn't it?"
It does indeed.

That would make you wonder...I am sure you must have a lot of moments like that working where you work.

Can I get a room with a river view. Is there an indoor pool there by any chance? I may need the room a lot more than some of your current patients.

As a Medical Technologist, many times I had to enter the secure psych. floor of our hospital to draw patients' blood. Even though some patients were in padded rooms and had guards posted to insure they wouldn't harm themselves or others....I was always sure that they were WAY more sane than I was!
