Apparently as a part of my new job I will be attending a Behavioral Health Renewal (which certainly I could use) and then an afterglow. I have never attended an afterglow and so I googled it and this is what I got. Looks like a giant green sandwich to me. Maybe you glow after you eat it.
I'm game.

Afterglow... isn't that something between a Husband and a Wife!!!!
In that case, I'm in!
As you know I have been to many afterglows! It is the PR thing but anyway here is my advice.
Smile.
If the conversation dies down talk about something like the weather, current events, sports, etc.
Work the room. Introduce yourself.
Be genuine.
Scratch that.
Pretend to be nice.
i'm assuming you read your own comment and realized the folly of your advice msu. i think i'm going to sign up for trish's version. i also pretend to be nice in those situations.
We used to have "afterglows" each Sunday evening after church - we would all gather in the fellowship hall and ...fellowship. With food present - of course.
It's the nice part of civility before the real work of your job begins sara. enjoy the food and fellowship (in a churchie type of way). Leave your sock monkeys at home if you want to impress your co workers.
Hmmmm...just where-for art thou working Thara? I worked in churches (two of 'em to be exact) and we never, ever had an afterglow at the end of the work day, or a conference or enything. What are you going to glow about after? And how wilt thou gloweth?
Hi Sara,
Last night on Oprah Show, I saw three people speak on Bipolar Depression and thought it is so good that people are speaking out on TV about it. It raises the awareness in people. In India, we still think that mental conditions are a stigma. Alas!
